History follows a progressive and chronological approach.   In Key Stage 1 the foundations of children’s understanding of the passing of time are laid.   Throughout the course they are encouraged to handle artifacts, pictures and photographs, progressing to maps, documents and architectural and environmental clues.  Your daughter will be encouraged to ask questions about these resources.  Careful observational skills are developed.  Discussion explores differing points of view, cause and effect and the value of evidence.  Your daughter will learn about the major issues and events in the history of this country and the world and how they may have influenced each other.  Frequently Art and Drama projects are linked to our History topics.  Field trips are very much part of our History courses; the girls thoroughly enjoy visits to places of historical interest which have previously included Nothe Forte in Dorset, Celtic settlements, local  museums and historical buildings.
