Bruton School for Girls is celebrating an incredibly successful start to 2017 after being ranked as the top school in Somerset for GCSE results and the second highest for A Levels. This comes on the back of being named in the Telegraph’s Top 10 for smaller independent schools – with BSG being the only school in the South West to make that list.
Data released from the Department for Education confirmed that the school scored an impressive 67.1 for the GCSE ‘Attainment 8’ measure which shows the average pupil achievement across eight subjects, including English and Maths. The national average is 48.2. The school out-performed all local schools in Somerset and Dorset – both state and independent – by some considerable measure and demonstrates the school’s growing academic reputation, despite being a non-selective school.
The BSG Sixth Form, which last September took on its largest number of local girls, this year has an impressive array of university offers including Churchill College, Cambridge to read Modern and Medieval Languages; Occupational Therapy at Exeter; Medicine at Leicester; Physics, Astrophysics and Cosmology at Lancaster, and English Literature and German at Birmingham. Other notable success in Fine Art and Creative Arts degree offers include Costume and Performance Design at the Arts University, Bournemouth; Creative Events Management at Bournemouth, and Fine Art at Falmouth.
Nicky Botterill, Headmistress at Bruton School for Girls, said: “These results put our small, friendly school firmly on the map. And for parents in the process of selecting schooling we know that our teaching expertise, combined with outstanding pastoral care, provides the best environment for every girl to achieve so much more.”
The school’s next open morning is being held on Friday 3rd March 2017. For more information about the Sixth Form, Senior School or the Prep School, or to book a place at the open morning or arrange a personal visit contact firstname.lastname@example.org
