Design Technology (KS3) and Design Technology Textiles (GCSE)

We offer GCSE Design Technology Textiles which is proving to be very popular; this exciting course promises to attain high results.

Pupils experience a wide and innovative range of dye, print and construction techniques in stunning surroundings.

The GCSE course includes environmental issues, industrial practice as well as ‘Art and Design in context’. The girls enjoy drawing, painting, photography, computer-aided design, fashion illustration, heat-transfer print techniques, felting, appliqué, and various stitch and construction techniques.

Within the studios we have many sewing machines, an overlocker and a heat press and we have the use of two computer rooms. We are also currently exploring the use of iPads to aid design and development.

Girls are offered annual trips to London exhibitions and experience workshops with local visiting artists and makers.

Girls are also encouraged to be part of the team which produces the whole school event Art Walk, the catwalk event showcasing work from all year groups, GCSE Art & Design and Design Technology Textiles coursework and the work of visiting textile designers.

We have expansive displays within the Design and Technology building which also spill out across the whole school.  Aside from exhibiting the pupils’ work, the displays also inform everyone of current articles, competitions, exhibitions, inspirational images and awards to pupils with outstanding work.
