Year 10 student Sophie Lloyd has been offered a place at the renowned Purcell School of Music’s ‘Sound and Music’ Summer School Composition Course. There are only 75 places for students aged 14-18 UK-wide so Sophie has done incredibly well against competition from top music students across the country.
Now in its eighth year, the celebrated Summer School is the only residential course of its kind in the UK for young creators and composers aged 14-18, devised by Sound and Music the national charity for new music, in partnership with the Purcell School of Music.
Sophie, who lives in Motcombe, will spend a week at the Hertfordshire campus in the summer with other young composers, working with the most talented tutors and professional musicians in the country.
Mr Matt Dury, Director of Music at Bruton School for Girls, explained: “To be offered at place at such a sought after music school is fantastic news for Sophie. She is already at Grade 7 flute, but this extra dimension and experience - from new media to jazz and everything in between – means that she will have an opportunity to explore and develop her musical ideas and try new areas of musical creation, from composing for film to writing for voices. Well done Sophie!”
