A happy and sociable place, Sunny Hill Preparatory School offers the chance for Pre-Prep girls and boys (aged 3-7) and Prep girls (aged 7-11) to begin school life in an exciting and caring environment, where the discovery of nature within our beautiful surroundings enhances their learning experience. We recognise your child’s potential and develop their talents through a broad and enriched curriculum.
Our Reception class was awarded 'outstanding' in all areas in an Independent Schools Inspectorate inspection in February 2012 and again in March 2014.
The Reception class is the start of full-time education at 4 years of age. Within the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, carefully planned activities and play allow your child to develop their natural curiosity and have fun as they embark on their educational journey. Firm foundations for learning are established.
A smooth transition is made into Prep 1 and 2 (Years 1 & 2) and the start of Key Stage 1 where learning is developed through activity, inquiry and creativity, and where caring behaviour and personal achievement are celebrated.
On the same campus as Bruton School for Girls, your child will benefit from excellent facilities including the professionally equipped studio theatre, science labs, Astro Turf pitch, dance studio, gymnasium, tennis courts and a solar-panel-heated outdoor swimming pool (all-year round swimming is available). Our Prep School girls are therefore very well prepared for moving to the senior school when the time comes. We have a unique Nature Reserve in our railway cutting and offer the pupils an Eco-activities programme building upon Forest School and including the well-established John Muir Trust.
The Prep School is friendly and unpretentious; children are free to be themselves, to explore their talents and skills and develop a love of learning.
At a crucial time in your child’s schooling, we focus on your son or daughter as individuals. The wide range of opportunities available encourages them to develop their full potential. The family atmosphere and small classes will put them at ease and makes teaching more personalised. In a supportive and stimulating environment, learning is a happy and positive experience.
