Gymnastic Tumbling and Flying are perhaps not the most usual combination of hobbies for a 16 year old, but Bruton School for Girls Senior 5 student Jess Brain has excelled at both!
Jess has recently been selected to represent Great Britain at the 26th European Championships in Trampoline and Tumbling in Baku, Azerbaijan. Jess qualified first in the Junior competition, no mean feat especially as she is the youngest of the four selected to represent Team GB. Not only will Jess travel to Azerbaijan in April she has also been selected to attend the Scalabis cup held in Portugal in July.
If this wasn’t enough alongside GCSE study, last week Jess became one of the youngest people in the country to fly an aircraft solo, utterly determined to achieve her ambition of becoming an airline pilot, she hopes this accolade will stand her in good stead when she starts the journey through selection.
Nicky Botterill Headmistress at Bruton School for Girls congratulated Jess on her hugely impressive accomplishments and said: “Jess’s absolute determination, dedication and ambition is truly impressive in someone so young. We are delighted to support Jess in her GCSE study while she is also competing at such a high level. Working with Jess and her family to allow her to accomplish so much has been a privilege and we look forward to developing this support as she enters our Sixth Form, where she hopes to gain her Private Pilots Licence (on her 17th Birthday!) and onto her dream job as a Pilot.”
