Class Arrangements and Staffing

The children who fall into this age group (3-5 years) are divided into two groups: an Early Years Class (Reception and the Pre-School year) and a Nursery group (3 yr olds) benefit from a suite of two recently refurbished rooms in the heart of the Prep School building.  In addition, they enjoy the use of the school’s extensive grounds, library, dance studio, hall and theatre. In the mornings the reception year and pre-school year work as two separate groups and come together in the afternoons.

The main EYFS classroom benefits from its own ‘free-flow’ access to a garden and outdoor learning space.  We have superb BA Hons and PGCE Primary and Early Years qualified teacher as well as a two part-time nursery nurses.  One of our nursery nurses is also our Forest School Leader.

In 2014 the ISI inspectors described our EYFS setting in the following way: “The overall effectiveness of the early years provision is outstanding.  The setting provides experiences that broaden and extend the unique skills and particular talents of each child.  The high expectations of the staff enable children of all abilities to make significant progress.  The strong levels of independence and the extremely warm relationships amongst the children of all ages and between the children and the staff are strengths of the setting.”  This is a strong platform on which to continue to build.
