Bruton artists take top spots at Black Swan

The School’s art department was celebrating a double success after winning two awards at the recent Black Swan Open Student Art Exhibition in Frome.

Upper Sixth student Connie Hong was declared winner of the 15-19 year old category for her painting of still-life with unusual found objects.  The painting was painted in June 2015 under supervision of the former Head of Art, Mr Brian Wyatt, and depicts an eclectic mix of objects painted in acrylics.

Connie’s prize includes a master class with renowned textile artist Mayumi Kaneko, which Connie will attend during the summer term.

Molly Lywood in Year 7 also received recognition and was awarded a Highly Commended award for her large charcoal drawing of a rabbit.

Ms Baisa Chmeil, Head of Art at Bruton School for Girls, explained:  “We are thrilled that our student’s artwork has been recognised in this way and shows that the school’s art department is going from strength to strength.”

Prizes were awarded by the Mayor of Frome, Cllr Kate Bielby, in a special ceremony where the exhibition was officially opened. The exhibition is open to the public until April 9th.
