Bruton’s dynamic Art Department aims to encourage the very best in creative skills for all girls, from Preparatory level through to Sixth Form. Art is popular at GCSE and A level, with students consistently attaining outstanding examination results. Many talented and successful students have moved on from Bruton to study Art and allied subjects at university and a number of our former students are currently working as textile, jewellery and fashion designers, architects, interior designers, animation artists and in publishing and teaching.
Visitors cannot fail to notice the vibrant pieces of art on display throughout the school, produced to an extremely high standard by girls of all ages and abilities. Upper school students have showcased their talents on many occasions at local and regional exhibitions and festivals, to much public acclaim. Bruton students have also joined forces and exhibited work alongside local artists. The school is a strong supporter of Somerset Art Works and has mounted major exhibitions of student work, open to the general public. Bruton School for Girls has achieved an Arts and Business Cultural Champion award for the South West of England, honouring the its outstanding contribution to the arts.
The Department is rooted in fine art, with opportunities to explore techniques in drawing and painting, textiles, printing, mixed-media and photography. At Sixth Form level, you have the opportunity to experience both digital and traditional black-and-white photographic processes and techniques. The Department is organised around a suite of well-equipped studios.
In addition to studying Art as a core subject in Senior 1, 2 and 3 and as an option at GCSE and A level, girls have the opportunity to become involved in a wide range of extra-curricular art activities during lunchtime and after school.
We aim to ensure that Art at Bruton is a motivating and enriching experiencing for all pupils and are always delighted to welcome visitors to see our work for themselves.
